St Cecilia’s Netball Club Code of Conduct
St Cecilia’s Netball Club adheres to the WDNA’s ‘Code of Behaviour’. Parents are required to sign
(acceptance with the box on your team app registration will be deemed your digital signature) that
they and their children will behave in accordance to these guidelines before their registration will be
accepted.
The full Code of Behaviour can be found at http://www.wdna.com.au/SitePage.aspx?Id=15
Some important points are included below although it is recommended that parents read and
understand the full Code of Behaviour before signing. Behaviours beyond these guidelines will not
be condoned and interventions may be undertaken by the St Cecilia’s Netball Club.
Player Code of Behaviour:
• Participate because you enjoy it, not just to please parents and coaches.
• Cooperate with your coach, and other players.
• Abide by decisions, without argument or bad temper.
• Verbal abuse of officials, coaches or other players, deliberately fouling or provoking an opponent and
throwing/damaging equipment is not acceptable or permitted.
• Ensure that at all times your behaviour is fair.
• Be a patient and enthusiastic supporter of fellow players.
• Applaud all good play, by your own team and opponents.
• Shake the hand of your opposition at the end of game
• Be a responsible team member.
• Always be on time.
• Attend all training sessions and advise your coach and team manager in advance if you are unable to
attend.
• Ensure you always bring the appropriate uniform/footwear and equipment to training and/or matches.
• Do not request or refuse a playing position allocated to you by your coach. Your coach has made the
positions that will best suit your team for that particular game and day.
Parent Code of Behaviour
• If your child is interested, encourage them to participate in the appropriate netball activity. However, if
your child is not willing to participate, do not force him or her. Remember, children are involved in
organised activity for their enjoyment, not yours.
• If you disagree with an umpire or coach raise the issue through the appropriate club channels (contact
details below) rather than question their judgment and honesty in public.
• Stay well clear of the court during matches - the umpires and coaches need space to be able to umpire
the game/coach the team
• Do not coach your child during the game - that is the coaches job. By all means offer encouragement
and cheer good play, but please leave the coaching to the coach.
• Likewise please do not hover or try to give instruction to your child/the team during court time breaks -
the coach requires this time to address their team
• Do not request playing positions for your child for the game. The coach prepares these positions
in advance of the game based on what will suit the entire team dynamic.
• Focus on your childs efforts and performance rather than the outcome of the game. This assists your
child in setting realistic goals related to his/her ability by reducing the emphasis on winning.
• Remember that children learn best by example. Applaud good play by all players.
• Recognise and respect the value and importance of volunteer administrators, committee, coaches
and umpires. They give up their time and resources to provide recreational activities for players
and deserve your support.
• Be courteous in communication with administrators, committee members, coaches, players,
team managers and umpires. Teach children to do likewise.
Club Issues/Concerns
• If you have an issue or concern, please do not take this up with the coaches. They quite often do not
have the authority to give you an immediate answer or solution. All issues or concerns should be put in
writing via email to club president Sally King sally@kennedyking.com.au and cc'd to club secretary
Viv Alberts vivalberts@hotmail.co.uk they will then respond to your concern as quickly as possible.
• Any concerns regarding team placement should be sent to club registration officer suziwaters@me.com
in the first instance
• Please do not contact the WDNA directly. WDNA have requested that any communication with them
only come via our Club President and Secretary - so please do not contact them regarding game times,
fixtures or any other issues.
